Born on November 26, 1966, in Dayton, she was the seventh child of Anthony and Mary Ellen. She attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School before graduating from Carroll High School. She continued her education at Wright State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, and later received a Master of Arts degree from University of Dayton. In 1997, she married Brian Knostman. Throughout her career, she worked as a teacher for both Dayton Public Schools and Oakwood City Schools. She is also the proud mother of Sadie An Li Xuan, born in 2004, and Wren Bea Song, born in 2011.
